Learning & Teaching grant winner Jabed Chowdhury

Congratulations to Jabed Chowdhury (Computer Science & IT) on receiving a D2L/ASCILITE grant to continue his work on gamification in Cyber Security teaching. D2L and ASCILITE jointly provide funding of up to $10,000 per year to support research projects in the field of technology-enhanced learning.

Jabed started with a small SHE College Learning & Teaching grant (covered in this post) which allowed him to utilize the platform ‘Capture the Flag’ to add an element of gamification into teaching his students to spot and plug security holes in IT systems.

The new grant, jointly funded by the LMS platform Desire2Learn and the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education, will allow him to design, implement and evaluate an innovative technology-enhanced game-based learning strategy which will immerse students in dealing with cyber-attacks and cyber-defence. In this way students will be able to develop the soft and hard skills sought by employers, in a learning environment that is highly engaging, as well as fun!
